Way of Nature program dates typically begin and end with a 'travel day,' during which there will be no official training. This gives you the opportunity to come to the Sacred Land Sanctuary (SLS), set up camp, meet your fellow Sacred Passagers, purchase any last minute supplies in town, and adjust to your new environment. Most people plan to arrive sometime in the afternoon, but arrival time is flexible based upon your travel needs.

If you are flying into Alamosa, please send your itinerary to your program coordinator so that a ride for you can be arranged. That's all!

If you will be flying into Denver, please continue reading below. You will need to arrange transportation to Crestone (a 4 hour drive). There are many car rental agencies available from the airport, but we recommend taking the daily Bustang bus that runs to Moffat, as you will not need a car once you're here. Once you arrive in Moffat, we can arrange to have someone come pick you up at the shuttle drop off. Please let us know ahead of time if you choose this method, and send us your itinerary. Specific Bus Shuttle information is listed below.

Bus Service

Denver International Airport (DIA) to Denver Bus Station in downtown Denver (to catch daily bus to Moffat).

If you are flying into DIA prior to taking the bus, you will need to plan your flight arrival to allow enough travel time to arrive at the downtown Denver bus station before 1:30 pm. You will need to catch the  ~ 11:30 am train from DIA to the downtown Denver bus terminal. We therefore recommend arranging your flight to arrive in Denver no later than 10:30 am.

You will need to catch the RTD west bound "University of Colorado A Line"  train to go from the Denver International Airport to the "Union Station - Denver Bus Center" in downtown Denver (~ 45 miles away). The Denver Bus Center is where you will catch the BUSTANG bus to Moffat. If you stayed overnight in an airport hotel, ask about their free shuttle service to bring you back to the airport to catch the "University of Colorado A Line" train to Union Station. They'll know where to bring you.

From Denver airport terminal to the Denver Union Station bus center in downtown Denver:

- Go toward the Westin Hotel located at the south end of the main airport terminal.

- Near the hotel entrance, take the escalator or elevator down to Level 1 - the train platform.

- Use one of the many kiosks to purchase a ticket for the west bound "University of Colorado A Line" to Union Station (Denver). It's a $9.00 USD fee.

- There are different daily schedules: M-Th; Friday; Saturday; & Sunday/Holiday, so be sure to select the correct daily schedule. View the schedule from DIA to Denver Bus Center here: RTD West Bound Schedule 

- Once you arrive at the Union Station train depot, go down below to get to the Denver Amtrak bus concourse. Look for the Bustang / Outrider bus (gate B4).

Denver Bus Station in downtown Denver to Moffat via Bustang bus lines

The main Denver bus hub for all  bus lines is known as the Denver Bus Center / Greyhound bus terminal. Here catch the Bustang/Outrider bus "DENVER to CRESTED BUTTE" bus. This bus travels daily between Denver and Moffat. Please arrive at the pick-up location at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Tickets are about $36.00 total each way and you will need to pay with cash when you board the bus, so be sure to have correct amount of cash on hand.

• Here you will need to catch a connecting bus from Salida to Moffat. Don't worry, the connecting bus waits for this bus to arrive before departing for Moffat.

• Catch the Bustang "PUEBLO TO ALAMOSA" bus.

• Buy ticket for "Salida to Moffat"

• Pay the $7.00 fare in cash when you board the bus - be sure to have the correct cash amount with you, they may not be able to make change..

Moffat to Salida • Fare $7.00:

For the return route, you should arrange your flight to leave no earlier than 2pm (3pm for International Flights), as you will need to allow time to take the RTD east bound "University of Colorado A Line" to Denver International Airport (DIA) after taking the shuttle bus that morning from Moffat. Driving

Driving to Crestone From Denver International Airport

Take Pena Blvd South/West for about 10 miles, until it merges into I-70 West. Take I-70 West for about 25 miles. Merge onto CO-470 E via Exit 260 toward Colorado Springs, and go 5.7 miles. Merge onto US-285 South toward Fairplay. Take 285 South through Fairplay, through Johnson Village, SOUTH, on 285 through Villa Grove (about 150 miles). After passing through Villa Grove watch for a turnoff from 285 to RT 17 on your Left. Take RT 17 through Moffat. As you are about to pass the southern end of Moffat look for a small sign for Crestone. You will turn Left on T Road heading East toward Crestone.

Driving to Crestone From Boulder

Take Hwy 93 (Broadway) South to US 6 East to C470 East to 285 South. Take 285 South through Fairplay, through Johnson Village, South, on 285 through Villa Grove (about 150 miles). After passing through Villa Grove watch for a turnoff from 285 to RT 17 on your Left (sign for Great Sand Dunes Natl. Park). Take RT 17 through Moffat. As you are about to pass the southern end of Moffat look for a small sign for Crestone. You will turn Left on T Road heading East toward Crestone.

The GPS coordinates for the Sacred Land Sanctuary in Crestone, CO are: 38.011235, -105.696557 (Your GPS may consider this Westcliffe, but you will access this location through the town of Crestone). Search Way of Nature Sacred Land Sanctuary on Google Maps.

Directions to Sacred Land Sanctuary from Crestone:

• From County Road T, continue to follow the main road into the town of Crestone, which becomes County Road 71, or Birch St. 

• It will then curve sharp Right onto Golden Ave.

• Go straight through the 1st stop sign.

• At the 2nd stop sign, follow the main road on a sharp Left onto Alder St.

• Continue Straight through the next stop sign, and follow Alder St. as it becomes Spillway Rd, leading up a long straightway that runs parallel to the mountains.

As the road bends to the right after the long straightway, keep an eye out for the Sacred Land Sanctuary sign on your right, next to the cattle grate.  You're here!
